Another month has flown by! And like every other month I honestly do not know where the time has gone. Isn’t it strange that the older you get, the faster time flies by? When I was younger it felt like a century for summer break to start and now summer is gone within a blink on an eye. Which I personally don’t mind because hello fall!
I had to really think hard about what I did this month and what stood out to me as a favorite. I didn’t just want to throw out some random things I liked. No I wanted the real deal, 5 August favorites that I truly loved. And hopefully you’ll be as excited as I am about the 5 I came up with! As per usual, please do share yours in the comments.
Here are my 5 August favorites:
STYLE // FALL/WINTER 2018-2019
While everyone is clinging to the last days of summer, I’m getting into the fall mood. Fall and winter style is my absolute favorite. I love layering, heavy knits, fur coats and boots. Sure there is something fun and light about summer fashion but fall is really where it’s at for me. With all the fall items flooding the online webshops I’ve already been online window shopping and curating the best items on the web.
Especially Zara is hitting all the right spots. I just got this amazing skirt and copied the whole outfit by also buying the matching blouse — which I’m wearing today. I also tried on these trousers with snakeskin print that are haunting me at night but the skirt version is also to die for. And check out this suit that’s just beautiful.
Another store that has a good range of fall items that I want to click home immediately, is & Other Stories. I actually added two items that are high on my wish list to The Chic List for September. I’ve also updated The Chic List with items I’ve been loving lately.
APP // UNFOLD
Unfold is THE app that you probably have seen pop-up in many Instagram Stories — among them my own. I LOVE using this app. I’m not much of a talk-into-my-phone-about-my-day type of person which is why I love this app. Unfold gives me the chance to make engaging Instagram Stories.
You can use the free templates called CS1 or buy the others for € 1,99 each. Personally I use the templates from CS2, CS3 & FF1 the most but if you just want to buy one of the extra series I would suggest buying FF1. The templates in this series have a cool, old school camera vibe.
With the latest update you can also add photos from Unsplash — a website with photos from photographers that you can use for free without credit — to spice up your stories. Download the app for iOs here or for Android here.
FOOD // THE STREETFOOD CLUB
This month I also met up with two of my old colleagues to go for lunch in Utrecht. I always save restaurant and lunch spot options in my saved items on Instagram so when we started looking for a place to meet I scrolled through my saved options. We ended up at The Streetfood Club which did not disappoint.
The sat outside around pink tables and could see a little bit of the interior but when I went to go to the bathroom was when I got blown away. The interior can only be described as Instagram heaven — and I’m pretty sure that was the intention — with pops of pink, jungle prints and Instagramable spots. BUT obviously we came here to eat. And that also did not disappoint! I got the Korean waffles which were basically sweet chicken waffles with a spicy taste. The Chicken was perfectly made and the combination with the maple syrup and I think some spicy Korean sauce made it a heavenly taste sensation. Definitely on my list of ‘foods I still dream about’ (which would be such an amazing idea for a short online video series).
If you’re ever in The Netherlands or are Dutch, definitely go and visit this place on my list of August favorites. Not just to take photos for the gram but also to enjoy the food and — when it’s warmer — do some people watching.
PODCAST // THE ONE GIRL BAND PODCAST
I’ve talked about this podcast over at my business account — go give me a follow if you like! — and wanted to share it here as part of my August favorites. It’s the The One Girl Band Podcast. This is such an amazing podcast to listen to if you’re a creative freelancer like me or small business owner. Or as Lola Hoad describes it, if you’re a female entrepreneur or creative who works for and by themselves.
The podcast touches on a variety of topics that touch all of us. They’re topics that you might want to discuss with someone but you work by yourself or keep to yourself because you think you’re the only one facing doubts or problems. Well this podcast will make you feel like you’re not the odd one out and let’s you know you’re not in it alone. Next to making you feel more adequate to run your own business, she gives tips and things to think about.

SELF CARE // 30 QUESTIONS FOR SELF DISCOVERY
This year I’ve been trying to journal a lot more. However, I’ve never really been someone who writes down stories about their day to day life. Mostly because it’s work or just hanging out with friends. So to get me writing I use 30 questions I find on Pinterest.
One of my August favorites is the ’30 questions for self discovery’ list by Lavendaire.com. Which I didn’t know before I started this post because someone cut off her credentials on Pinterest. I hate when people do that! Anyway, let’s get back to the list instead of focusing on the rude manners of others. Because this list is all about discovering yourself!
I especially love these questions because it’s full of thought provoking questions like ‘what would make me happy right now?’, ‘When did I experience joy this week?’ or ‘When was the last time I felt truly alive?’. And honestly, it’s also very confronting. I even stopped journaling for a couple of days when I got to question three because I had to really think about it.
If you’re like me and you don’t journal naturally, this list could get you on your way. Especially if you want to use journalling as a way to take care of you, this list has all the questions to dive into who you are and where you want to go.
