A personal post again. I hope that you like these types of posts as a little insight into my life. Today I want to list the 5 things I want to quit doing right now as a push to really commit. Because it’s out in the world now so I can be kept accountable by whoever will read this post. And also because I want to inspire you to think about the things that might hold you back right now. Let me know in the comments what you’re working for yourself.
#1 HOLDING ON TO THE PAST
I always have one moment in the month that I look back at the past and get down by it. And that’s not how you should deal with your past in my opinion — even though I do. I want to look back at the past with gratefulness and focus on the now. Not even the steps I’m going to make but being busy with the now. So the first thing I want to focus on is letting go of the past and believe that everything will be better moving forward.
#2 STOP BINGING
I’ve realized that I binge watch too many series. I can get through one season in one day which is insane. Plus if I look back I can’t even remember everything that happened. That’s why I want to stop binging unless I’m going to be 100% committed to watching it. I want to enjoy the things I watch or listen to.
#3 BE ON MY PHONE BEFORE SLEEPING
Big issue that I almost got rid of but I got back into it. The ‘just 5 minutes’ ALWAYS turns into two hours and I will be laying awake at 2am. Big no if I want to be productive the next day. So I’m going to have my phone on my nightstand from 10pm — like I used to do — and pick it up around 8am.
#4 DO THINGS LAST MINUTE
And the issue at #3 enables the issue of doing things last minute. I will feel tired, not get everything done and slide it forward. Which has everything to do with my discipline levels. And those levels need to be leveled up if I want to achieve my goals this year.
I had such a productive week before and then end up with three weeks of trying to get everything done last minute. I’m having non of that anymore. I need to double down, be disciplined and get sh*t done. Not just because I want to but because I know it’ll make me feel better and I’ll have more downtime.
#5 GET TEMPED BY INSTANT GRATIFICATION
Another thing I really want to change to shift my mindset: focus on the long term instead of instant gratification. I feel like this is the code to a successful life — whatever success means to you. With instant gratification I mean things like saving up for a more expensive item instead of buying something at the moment because you want a new item. Or doing half the job on my service pages for Fiona Gobbo Creative instead of buckling down and creating what I really want. But that’s just me!
In other words it’s about the long plan instead giving in right now.
