When it comes to being a creative freelancer, I love to be organised. I have three different notepads for different occasions — weekly tasks, daily tasks and project planning — and three different notebooks for ideas (I’m trying to downsize!). If I’m organized, I feel organized and, more importantly, like I’m handeling my sh*t. When I saw the Knomo Knomad Organiser*, I knew this was something I needed to curate into my life.
I mean, a laptop sleeve that keeps my beloved MacBook safe AND keeps my accessories in one place?
That’s definitely something that grabs my attention. Unfortunately, it was sold out at the time. So as a true curator of beautiful items, I checked in every now and then to see if it got back in stock.
And finally I got my hands on it! And it has surpassed my expectations every since. Because I know there are women who might want to acquire a life as a digital nomad, I decided to put together this Knomo Knomad Organiser review to show you what you can expect. Because it’s something you want to invest in for your future travels or just if you are in the market for a nice laptop sleeve that has it all.
// THE KNOMAD ORGANISER: THE BASICS
A little basic info on the Knomo Knomad Organiser: it comes in two colors — black & red — and two sizes: 10.5” for tablets and 13” that fits a laptop & tablet. The fabric is made of premium nylon that is water-resistant. Which is perfect for me in the Dutch unpredictable weather. I’ve been caught off guard by the rain many times and always when I either have an open bag or a canvas tote.
I also asked on Instagram if anyone wanted me to cover anything about the Knomad Organizer and I got one question if you could add straps to it. Personally I don’t think it would be a good idea. You could add straps to it but I don’t think with the amount of stuff I carry in it — see below for more on that — that it would hold up very well. It would probably tear. If you really want a bag version you could either choose the Maddox tote* or the Beauchamp backpack*.
// PERFECT FOR THE ORGANIZATIONAL JUNKIE
But the best thing about the Knomo Knomad Organiser: it has many compartments to organise your digital life while traveling or when you go to your favorite coffee place around the corner to work from. No more dragging around different pouches with cables that get all tangled up or a pen that suddenly disappeares to the depths of your bag.
To give you a little feel of the space you get, here is how I use all the compartments inside the organiser:
In the front pocket I keep my adapter for my laptop.
On the inside, I use the left padded pocket for my tablet. The smaller two pockets for small books, notebooks or a notepad. The mesh pocket is for my Magic Mouse 2 (with a special Magic Mouse leather pouch), thunderbolt cable and two connecting adapters. Under the elastic band I keep an extra pair of EarPods and a phone charger with cable.
On the right side I use the padded pocket for my MacBook Pro. The smaller insert pockets I use for my phone — an iPhone 8 Plus which fits perfectly — and portable Knomo battery that I got with my Elektronista. Next to it I keep my pens and the card pockets are for my business cards and USB-c hubs.
Because I’m mostly using it to carry my things with me when I work from a coffee shop, I keep all my daily essentials — cards, keys, change, etc. — loose in my bag. However, there is enough space to keep it in the Knomo Knomad Organiser.
// THE DIGITAL NOMAD LIFESTYLE
I’ve been following Knomo for a while now. Last year I finally caved and bought the Elektronista Clutch for my iPad (you can check what I keep in it here). It’s an innovative design brand that really knows their stuff when it comes to designing beautiful work bags. Knomo is all about creating bags that keep you organised, paired with the best technology and look good.
Their biggest target group are digital nomads: people who combine work with travel or living in another country (in case you didn’t know). Which you can really tell from their bags and how they designed it. Especially the small, nifty details: RIFD blocking (so your cards or passport can’t get scanned and abused) and pockets for your portable battery or even a bag that automatically charges your phone. Even better, they’re made with fabrics like leather or thick nylon and finished off with golden details. To put in their own words: “If you’re a grown up digital nomad, there’s no reason to dress like a backpacker.” And I couldn’t agree more!
