MY 5 JULY FAVORITES

Even though favorites posts don’t rank really well for my blog, I just love making them. I might switch it up and turn it into a newsletter but for now I will share my July favorites in post form.

This month has been a whirlwind. Lots of things has changed for me and inbetween I’ve gathered the favorites below. From hair products that changed the game for me to catching up with podcasts to my favorite moments. Let’s catch up!

HAIR // Kérastase Aura Botanica

You have hair products that clean your hair and you have hair products that actually do something to your hair that makes a difference. And that is what this range did for my hair. My hair is pretty fine but I have a lot of hair. It’s long, pretty overprocessed and I have a dry scalp. The latter is what makes my hair mostly hard to handle because I can’t use all shampoos. I’ve figured out that the SLS {silicones} in shampoos is what sets my scalp on fire — at least that’s what it feels like.

The shampoo from this range is free of silicones and sulfates. It smells naturally and earthy but isn’t overwhelming. It smells clean in a way. You do have to use a little more product because it doesn’t spread easily but that isn’t remarkable for a more natural shampoo. The conditioning balm is very rich and thus you don’t need a lot of product.

After washing my hair with the Kérastase products my hair actually looks better and nourished. I don’t have to wash it immediately after two days because my scalp doesn’t itch — which was the case before. It honestly left me really impressed.

I do want to add that the products were gifted to me at work. Kérastase is a luxury brand so you have to keep in mind that the price range of these products are higher than your drugstore hair products. A good drugstore dupe that I’ve also used is the Lavender range from L’Oréal Paris if you have — like me — a fussy scalp.

TV SHOW // Killing Eve

If you haven’t seen this how yet, please get on it! It is such a good show and one of my July favorites. The show is about a pshygothic female murdereress for hire that a detective turned secret agent — Eve — needs to catch. When the detective uncovers that murders are actually hits and most likely are committed by a woman, she gets obsessed — in the best way — to catch this killer. Villanele, the hit women, is such an interesting character and it’s fun to get to know how she became who she is but also the games she plays with people are hauntingly fun to watch.

Not only does it have two strong female leads — Sandra Oh, who you may know from Grey’s Anatomy, plays Eve and Jodie Comer plays Villanele — it also has good storylines with drama, humor and suspense. Something for everyone.

It comes as no surprise to me that Sandra Oh got an Emmy nomination for her role in this TV show. The chemistry between the two female leads is amazing to watch but also their relationships with the other characters will keep you watching. Can’t wait to see what season two will bring.

PODCAST // Up and Vanished

So I’m insanely late to this podcast but it is so interesting. I’m obsessed with true crime podcasts but I stumbled across this one by accident and started listening. And boy is this one hell of a rollercoaster ride. Exactly the reason why it ended in my July favorites.

For the people who are as late to the party as I am: the podcast was started by Payne Lindsey who actually wanted to make a documentary about a missing persons cold case around Atlanta. It eventually became a podcast about the Tara Grinstead case — one of the biggest cases in the area that had been unsolved for 12 years.

The podcasts consists of general episodes and case evidence episodes that go into certain pieces of evidence that raised a lot of questions. He goes over all the evidence that was already gathered and talks to townspeople to get more information. And then in the middle of the podcast something huge happens — I don’t want to spoil too much — and the whole thing gets even more interesting.

If you’re into true crime and don’t mind listening to stories than you should definitely check this one out.

STYLE // The Chic List: August edit

Another new addition I’m adding to the blog is ‘The Chic List’, which is now officially live! I will update The Chic List every month with new bits that caught my eye. It will have style items but also beauty bits, lifestyle must haves and whatever I find interesting.

Two of my favorite items from this month — so not for August — are in this shoot. The Saint Laurent inspired heart eyes sunglasses from Catwalk Junkie. I’ve tried the real thing but the knock-off — that was a fraction of the price — actually looked better on me. The Saint Laurent one is a little smaller and doesn’t flare out that much on the sides. If you love the small sunglasses trend — which I don’t, oversized sunglasses are my thing — you will love the Saint Laurent ones. But for me the Catwalk Junkie sunglasses are the perfect summer accessory that I’ve been wearing non-stop.

Second July favorites item are the Isabel Marant Lazio boots that are such a steal. I bought them from a fellow Dutch blogger and they are in such good condition. They were boots that have been on my mind for literally years but I had written them off as ever ending in my wardrobe. Super happy that I could add them to my collection and they’ll be my go-to fall boots for sure.

MOMENTS // Enjoying some time off

So this past month had its ups and downs. I’ve been working on my freelance branding design business Fiona Gobbo Creative which, as many self-employed peeps will get, has its ups and downs in itself. But I’ve also been really enjoying some time for myself, realizing that I may have to deal with issues again that I thought I had already dealt with — so vague but I don’t want to share too much personal info — and seeing people I haven’t seen in a long time.

I also went to two concerts — something I LOVED doing when I was younger — by myself. I know this can be daunting to do but I can honestly say it’s nice to do the things you want to do without stopping yourself because you have to go by yourself. Enjoy the music. In the end you’re surrounded by lots of people. Or, in my case with Haim, you can meet up with people you know. So don’t let going somewhere by yourself stop you from doing what you want to do.
