If there is one type of shoe that has never been a disappointment it’s black boots. They’re are a staple for any wardrobe — whether it’s curated, capsule or overflowing with items. You need to get yourself a cool pair that you can wear on a daily basis.
What I love about a good pair of black boots is that if you invest, you get a very high ROFI (return of fashion investment). I can wear all my boots for work, casual, with jeans, with a dress and even a suit.
Just with anything else that goes into my wardrobe I’ve got a strong opinion on what I do and don’t like. Below I’ve rounded up my 5 favorite types of black boots including the options I love at the moment.
By far one of my favorite pairs of black boots are the Chloé Susanna boots that I won thanks to this post for Farfetch. It’s the one type of boots I’ve been wearing to death and grab only a daily basis. I can wear them with literally everything. Yes it’s a pretty expensive pair — that I would not recommend if you don’t have the budget for it — but it’s a pair that’s a true staple in my wardrobe.
If you’re interested in getting the Chloé Susanna boots, you can still get them at Farfetch here* or via Net-A-Porter here*. If you want a more affordable option — but still as cool — get these Anine Bing Penny boots*. They’re still high on my list next to the Anine Bing Charlie boots. For small budgets I would go to either ASOS or check out these Nasty Gal boots*.

Want to add a more tough black boot to your wardrobe? The military black boots are the match for you. The classic is obviously the Dr Martens boots. Gone are the days that only the goth emo kids walked around with them. They’re making a true comeback that last two years as a fashion statement.
What’s cool about the new Dr Martens boots is that there are all different types of leathers and textures. I love these shiny patent leather Dr Martens boots* or go for a classic leather pair*. If you’re more of a black boots with heels type of girl, they also got your back*. If you’re in the mood for something more statement, these glitter Dr. Martens* might be the black boots for you.

The latest that I got on board with is sock boots. They’re the perfect combination between sleep & chic but still casual to wear for a day to day look. When I’m trying out new trends I like to go for a save color but I think the sock boot works best in black. Especially if you wear a lot of darker jeans like I do you will want a pair of sock boots in a darker color. It also elongates the legs which is a plus when you don’t have long legs.
The black boots that I have are these from & Other Stories* in black suede. I prefer suede and leather instead of the more scuba fabrics that are out there. Do you have a budget to stick to? Check out these black sock boots* from Nasty Gal that are more budget friendlier. If you want a pair that’s great for spring, check out these Public Desire ones* with an open toe.

KITTEN HEEL BOOTS
One of the boots that I’ve been getting into are the kitten heel boots. They have a cool vibe that I can get into but still look chic. My ZARA pair is from a couple years ago that I’ve rediscovered when I was cleaning out my closet. What I especially love is that it has a glitter texture but without being too much out there. I can wear them with my signature work look but just as easily with a mini dress for a night out. They’re versatile which is what I always look for in an item.
Another high street brand that has a good option right now is & Other Stories*. They’ve got a classic black suede kitten heel boots in their collection right now. Another brand that’s making a cool kitten heel boots moment is Anine Bing. You can get her kitten heel boots in patent leather croc print* or these Anine Bing boots with gold zipper edges* that are just amazing.
OVER THE KNEE BOOTS
I’m still looking for the perfect pair of over the knee boots — I do have my eyes on these black boots from & Other Stories* that are the perfect slouchy over the knee boots. They’re the perfect boots to create a cozy look with for fall or chillier spring evenings. Throw on a big oversized sweater or knitted sweater dress with a pair of over the knee boots. No fuss but you’ll look put together.
