It only feels like yesterday when spring finally started. But as time flies by, it’ll be summer already next month. Cold drinks. Warm weather. Maybe a beach vacation on the horizon. Whatever you’re doing for summer, you want to dress breezy and fuss free. At least that’s what I love when it comes to summer fashion. I either prefer shorts or a dress.
Confession time: I don’t do well with hot weather. I get even more tired, agitated and downright moany at times. Don’t know what it is but when the suns comes out I need to be kept cool to stay cool emotionally. And that’s why I love dresses for summer. And who says you can’t wear your favorite spring dresses into summer?
So what do you need to keep in mind when you buy your own chic spring day dresses to wear through summer? Here are my personal styling tips:
FABRIC IS KEY
I know I talk about this a lot when it comes to style but it is so so important in selecting the right item: fabrics.
In summer you want to feel breezy and not suffocated. You’ll want to get chic spring day dresses that are made of natural fabrics. Why? Because they’re breathable. Your best bet is either cotton or linen. If you do find a dress that is made of synthetic fabrics — happens to the best of us — make sure that the fit is flowy and avoid sleeves.
A lot of people think that silk is a great fabric to buy for spring and summer but that isn’t necessarily the case. Yes, it’s lightweight and it looks gorgeous but it’s a very tightly woven fabric. Which means that it isn’t that cooling to wear when it’s 30 degrees outside. In spring you’d probably be fine but when it really gets really hot you should avoid it. I will say that textured silk is probably fine — but usually a little see-through — but the smooth silk fabrics get a no from me.
The best chic spring day dresses are the ones that you can layer up. In spring you can throw on a jacket over it or — one of my favorite looks — a knit over it, to keep you a little warmer. And in summer you can wear the dress on its own.

KEEP THE ARMS UNCOVERED UP
Like I said above, the best spring dress that you can wear into summer is sleeveless or has short sleeves. Other favorites: the capped sleeve or off the shoulder sleeves. As long as you have a lot of room to breathe. For me this is super important when I want to feel fresh and cool in summer.
THE CHIC SPRING DRESSES FOR SUMMER
And now onto the best part: my favorite chic spring dresses you can wear into summer.
First up is the dress I’m wearing in this post, the ASOS DESIGN mini sundress with polka dots*. I took this dress with me on my short trip to Italy last week. This trip I wore it with a knit over it (tip #2) and took it off when it got warmer. I can see myself wearing this little number when it gets hot with a pair of sandals and my Mango raffia bag. The other dress I’ve been dreaming of is this beautiful asymmetrical one shoulder strap dress* from H&M. It has been sold out ever since it hit their webshop and I can’t say I’m surprised. If you look at the close-ups of the dress you’ll see how beautiful the details are. It’s covered in embroidery that almost looks like it’s done by hand. It also checks of all the above tips: it’s made of cotton, you can throw a jacket over it — denim jacket perhaps? — and your arms are free.
SPEND A LITTLE MORE
If you have a bigger budget and you love frilly dresses, you’ll want to check out the dresses by LoveShackFancy. This LoveShackFancy Natasha shortsleeved mini dress* is perfect for spring as well as summer. You can edge it up with a leather jacket and boots in spring. In summer you just throw on your sandals, your favorite sunglasses and you’re ready to enjoy summer.
If you’re on a budget, you need to head over to your local H&M because they have even more chic spring dresses. I love this creamy dress* with a v-neck at the front and back. It has flounces running from the top to the bottom. It’s just an interesting dress to get if you’re looking for something that is more special. A less special dress but still a good option is this H&M shortsleeved tea dress with brown buttons on the front*. It’s simple, fuss free and you can dress it up with fun accessories.
Do you love a boho style dress? Then this white dress* from H&M is the one for you. It has summer in Greece vibes and red embroidery around the neckline. It’s fun and breezy at the same time.
Another place to get budget friendlier dresses is & Other Stories. I love this black wrap dress with puffy sleeves*. It’s simple, cute and you can easily throw on a knit or jacket over it.
