Cozy knitwear. Boots. Staying in, reading books and watching movies — It is almost fall! Fall fashion is probably my favorite type of wardrobe investment. It’s the season where I think I truly shine style wise and the time for me to invest. That’s why I’m sharing the 5 investments on my fall wish list for 2019.
In case you didn’t know, I live in the Netherlands and 80% of the time I can wear my fall staples. That’s why I like to splurge a little more this time around because I know I can get the most wear out of these items. With being more conscious of what we consume, it’s good to keep that in the back of your mind: what is the lifespan of the item I’m investing in? If you are going to buy anything on this list, make sure you can wear it for years and seasons to come.
Here are the investment items on my fall wish list for 2019:
TIP: I’m a firm believer in building a wardrobe with items you can wear time and time again and you can mix and match. If you are interested to build your very own personal style capsule wardrobe or curated closet, check out this post where I share a free printable to get you started.
After having a collection with the best black boots, I’m ready to spice things up in my wardrobe with some statement boots. I’m thinking of either getting a pair of red boots like these from Stevie boots from Anine Bing or leopard ones like this pair from Saint Laurent*. Or maybe I’ll go for a pair of patent black boots*. Choices, choices.

STATEMENT BOOTS ON MY FALL WISH LIST*
Most of my knits I’ve had for 3+ years right now and some are loosing their shape. Which means, it is time to replace them. I always like to get a full lifespan out of the items I get. I might not always make the most responsible brand choices but I always make the right choice item wise. When I invest, I expect to keep the item until it falls apart.
One of the items on my list is the IRO Clymer striped jumper*. I got a dark striped sweater a couple of years ago in Barcelona at & Other Stories. This sweater is still wearable — so I do still wear it — but it has completely lost its shape. The fit of the IRO sweater is different than the one I have. This one has a deep v-neck and shredded details but I like to change things up.
The second sweater I got my eyes on is the Acne Studios mohair sweater in olive green*. I mostly want this one because of the color. It’s such a beautiful green shade that’s perfect for fall. And if you are like me and need to stock up on some basics for the upcoming season, then this Equipment Madalene cashmere sweater* is perfect for you. It’s a basic cashmere sweater in black with a v-neck.
TIP: Choosing the right fabrics will help with the longevity of your wardrobe. You need to invest in items that you can wear for their full lifespan. The right fabric — like cashmere — can last you for years. It is all about cutting down on consumerism when it comes to your curated or capsule wardrobe.
COZY KNITS FOR FALL*
If there is one item for the fall winter season that will keep you warm and is worth the investment, it is a coat. Where I live it is cold 80% of the time. Because of that I wear a jacket or coat most of the time. It is part of any fall outfit.
The first coat I would love to add to my curated wardrobe is the IRO Paris Karpa coat. I love the structured fit — something I find very flattering on me — and that it is oversized. The grey and black houndstooth pattern is also a great print for fall. A good second option is Monki oversized faux shearling coat* in a light cream color. I don’t own any light colored coats and think this particular shearling coat would look amazing with a full black outfit.
The last coat I have on my fall wish list is a long, thin wool coat to wear with more professional looks. Something I can throw over an outfit when I have a meeting or event that isn’t too warm. A good option I have found is this camel wool blend coat* by & Other Stories but I’m betting that ZARA will have a couple of options soon in stock.
COATS TO KEEP YOU WARM*
Lately I’ve been really inspired by the Saint Laurent shows and look books. I love how they combine a lot of heavy fabrics like velvet, leather and sequins with more delicate details. One of them being the dotted tights. I also love the combination of more chunky boots with delicate tights.
You don’t need to splurge on Saint Laurent tights. There are affordable options out there. I love the one from H&M* or these Gipsy small dotted tights via ASOS*. These ASOS DESIGN medium polka dot tights* are also a great option if you want bigger dots.
TIP: Want to find your own theme for the next season? I love using Pinterest for style inspiration. I create private and public boards on there to pin the images that inspire me. Usually that turns into a theme that I keep in the back of my mind when getting new items or combining the ones I already have.
I can never have too many dresses so they can’t be missing from my fall wish list. My favorite new fall appropriate dress is actually already off the list. It’s this H&M chiffon dress* with snow leopard print that I’m wearing in this post. I love wearing this dress with my Chloé Susanna boots and faux leather jacket. It’s perfect for daily wear but it’s also chic enough for work.
Like I said above, I’ve been inspired by the Saint Laurent shows and look books for fall. This & Other Stories dark red velvet t-shirt dress* matches that vibe perfectly. I just love the dark red color. The simpleness of the dress makes it an easy dress to combine in many different ways.
To keep the red theme going, this & Other Stories mini wrap dress* in bright red is perfect for work. A wrap dress is such an easy item to combine with a pair of boots and you can wear it into different seasons.
