You know what I love about the start of a new season? Curating my wardrobe for the season. Just adding a few killer pieces to make your wardrobe feel like new. And since this blog is focused on ambitious women, I wanted to give your (& mine) fall work wardrobe a little boost.
Summer is gone, the temperatures are dropping slowly — at least over here. And it feels surprisingly refreshing, a new season. Maybe you’re just back from an amazing holiday or an inspiring city trip or you’ve survived summer in the office. Whatever it is, it feels like it’s time for something new to get you motivated.
I personally always get extra motivated when I arrive at work or my desk in something that makes me feel like a bad ass girlboss. And it’s that balance between looking stylish, chic & professional that I can handle whatever is going be thrown at me that day. That’s why I want to share the 5 fall work wardrobe items to add right now that’ll give you the confidence boost at work that we sometimes need.
Here are the 5 items to add to your fall work wardrobe to spice things up:
// DRESSY (PRINTED) TROUSERS
Number one item for your fall work wardrobe is the dressy trouser. I already have a grey wool one and a striped one that’s part of a suit. I’m still hunting for a black version but for now I’m in love with the dressy printed trouser I’m wearing in this outfit. It’s a simple print in dark colors so I can easily combine it with other items like a knitted sweater in black or green but also a classic white shirt.
It’s an instant upgrade for your fall work wardrobe! It also doesn’t have to cost you a ton. The trousers I’m wearing today are from H&M & only 25 euros. A steal!

#2 // LIGHT KNITTED SWEATER
It’s still a little too warm to go for your chunky knits so the best next option is a light knitted sweater. I love to look for options at H&M or & Other Stories. Both have affordable options in different colors. If you want to invest in quality pieces, check out Equipment sweaters or the knit section on Shopbop.com.
You can combine the lightweight knitted sweater with dressy trousers, a leather skirt or just plain jeans for casual Friday.

#3 // BOOTS
Fall is the season to bring back the boots. So why not add a new pair to your fall work wardrobe? I’ve already added the perfect new pair to The Chic List & whenever I need dressier shoes I reach for my Chloé Susanna boots. Whenever I wear these boots my look gets an instant upgrade. They look chic, are work appropriate & they’re often a conversation starter with likeminded women.
#4 // SILK SHIRT
A classic staple that can’t be missing from your fall work wardrobe. Silk is not only a warm fabric, it instantly makes you look chic & put together. Go for a solid color — classic black or white or go bold with a red — or spice things up with a print. I personally own one with a snake print which looks super luxurious.
#5 // MIDI SKIRT OR DRESS
You look either a little Amish or extremely chic with a midi skirt or dress. When you find your work appropriate midi skirt or dress, it’ll be a match made in work wardrobe heaven. I personally haven’t found the right one just yet — although my eye has fallen on this leopard one from Réalisation Par. I love a good mini skirt or dress but when it gets colder, I just want to cover myself up more. Feeling comfortable & warm trumps looking cute when it gets colder. But honestly, why choose in the end? If you find your fall work wardrobe match, you don’t have to.
