Spring is here and the weather is getting a little warmer. But it is also that time of the year when it’s cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon and cold again in the evening — so what to wear? Transitional spring items!
This might feel a little redundant since I share these types of posts every year — I might need to rethink what to put out on here — but I think it is good to rethink which items you still need and why you need them. That’s why I’m sharing my 5 favorite transitional spring items for 2020. I know most of you are probably stuck inside and haven’t been busy thinking about what you’re missing in your wardrobe — I will drop a couple of other blog posts soon. However, if you are in need of some distraction and want to day dream about being able to roam free outside, let this be your inspiration.
A LEATHER JACKET
It is the perfect weather right now to dust your leather jacket off and wear it out again. I don’t know how I ever survived winters in a leather jacket. What was 15 year old me thinking? (probably that I looked really cool — and was feeling really “cool” as well). But these days I bring my leather jacket out when we are in this transitional weather.
Even more than a decade later and I still think a leather jacket just looks really cool and elevates any cutesy dress or full black look. No surprise here why it is a wardrobe staple to have. You just got to find the right one for you and your style.
I recently got my hands on a leather jacket I’ve wanted for AGES but was discontinued. I had an alert set up on Vestiaire Collective to keep me up to date if a Vintage leather moto jacket from Anine Bing with gold hardware was added. Between Christmas and New Years someone put up their jacket in pristine condition. It looks almost as new so I knew I had to suck it up and throw my money at it. And honestly, well worth all the money I have spent on it. It’s a jacket I can count on as part of my most used transitional spring items for 2020.
WARM WOOL CARDIGAN
You might be a little confused why there is a warm wool cardigan on a list of transitional spring items for 2020. Yes it is getting warmer but we are very much, like I mentioned before, in that weird weather period. Where one hour you might think that Winter is coming and the next one it feels like you are on a tropical island. A warm wool cardigan is your friend in this situation.
Unlike a knitted sweater, you can easily take it off and put it on whatever the weather is doing at that moment. No statically charged hair from taking off your sweater, just an instant breeze or the feeling of a warm blanket.
To make sure you can wear it with dresses and jeans or trousers, I would suggest to go for a longer model. I have one from H&M that I got years ago from the premium quality section. If you want something affordable I would say check there. They have one in stock right now in a darker camel color with belt*. Another great place to shop for knitwear is & Other Stories. I really love this light grey melange long Alpaca blend cardigan* and this dark green version that’s a little shorter*. If you want something a little more coat like and bouji, then this White + Warren luxe cashmere robe* is perfect. Arket has something similar in alpaca blend*.

TIP: If you want to shop for secondhand designer items, Vestiaire Collective is the place to go. I love how easy their app is and it keeps me updated on all the new items that are being added that I want to keep my eye on.
ANKLE BOOTS — THAT’S IT
Whatever the season, there is always an ankle boot that I could wear. In all honesty, I wear my Chloé Susanna boots on the daily — from winter to summer. However, in between season a pair of ankle boots is the perfect footwear to get you from the cold morning to the warmer afternoon and cold evening. No need to change out of them because they work with pretty much any look, and any occasion.
Like I said, my all time favorite is my Chloé Susanna boots*. Expensive as hell, I know, but I’ve been wearing them almost daily since 2016. Well worth the investment if you ask me if you are investing in transitional spring items. Another pair that has the same kind of look are the Anine Bing Penny boots*. You can also check Vestiaire Collective for second hand options.
SKIRTS AS A TRANSITIONAL SPRING ITEMS HIGHLIGHT
The second year this has been on the spring list but I love a good skirt — midi or mini. Such an easy item to combine with a printed tee, knitted sweater, cami or silky blouse. My favorite option for work is a midi satin skirt and for casual days a mini skirt to move around in.
I think for this year I want to invest in a basic black midi skirt —preferably in silk — and another printed one. On my wish list is the Anine Bing Bar silk skirt* in black and the Réalisation Par Naomi skirt — both cliché choices but I just can’t get them out of my mind. I also recently got a wrap skirt from Pull & Bear in black with white dots — something fun for the hotter spring days.
BLOUSE AS OUTERWEAR
I’ve said this before but I will mention it again — a blouse is the perfect item to function as an outerwear piece in spring. I especially love a structured utility type of blouse for this purpose. It gives a simple look like a flow skirt with a t-shirt and boots a more interesting look. Because a utility blouse has more structure than a cotton or silk one, it gives your outfit a more put together look. A really chic version of the utility jacket is this one from IRO paris. Just something different from the normal army green version.
